In All Your Getting This Year...Get Understanding!

Get understanding.

Those were the two words I heard this morning during my conversation with God. I knew it was a scripture. I knew I had actually studied this scripture (and so have you, if you were rocking with me when we studied the book of Proverbs).

Wisdom is supreme — so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7

The Holy Spirit also said to me: Before you try to get anything else this new year, get understanding. Get understanding of My Word. Get understanding of My Ways. Get understanding of My Kingdom. Get understanding of My Laws. Get understanding of My Character. Get understanding.

As I wrote all this down in my journal, I went back a few chapters in Proverbs and it says in Proverbs 2:6:

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

In order for us to get understanding, we must get wisdom. The beginning of wisdom is to acquire wisdom. The Amplified translation of Proverbs 4:7 says:

The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding[actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]. Proverbs 4:7 AMP

We got to pursue wisdom. Proverbs 2:3-5 says to: Call out for the ability to be wise. Cry out for understanding. Look for it as you would look for silver. Search for it as you would search for hidden treasure. Then you will understand how to have respect for the Lord. You will find out how to know God.

Dr. Tony Evans said if you are not spiritually hungry, ask God to give you a new spiritual appetite. Godly wisdom doesn’t just fall in your lap. It requires diligent pursuit.

Are you all about getting more money, more influence, more power, more clients, more stuff in the near year? Or will you be all about getting understanding? I believe this conversation with the Holy Spirit this morning is meant to correct us in our new year pursuits. Ask God to change your appetite so that you can pursue Him more than ever this year.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
